Ellen Silberlicht: Reaching for Hope

Ellen Silberlicht's sculptures combine the earthy, crackled textures of raku-fired ceramics with the fuzzy, softness of felted wool. The Raku vessel is fired first and then wool fibers are chosen to compliment the magical colors that resulted in the firing. In Reaching for Hope, bright yellow wool forms, accented with glass beads and felted buttons, emerge from the raku vessel. This striking combination of rigid ceramics and flexible fibers creates a compelling contrast that invites us to explore its rich textures and thoughtful design.
