Josh and I met at Carlow College in 1994. We formed BoxHeart in 1998 while exhibiting our own artwork in a tent at the Westmoreland Rib Cook-off. In June, 2001 we selected BoxHeart's Bloomfield home, formerly John Mowder's Bloomfield ArtWorks space. Our very first exhibit, "Art of this Century", featured - literally - hundreds of local artists. Ten years later in September, 2011 we purchased the 4523 Liberty Avenue building and began the process of renovating the upper floors. In January, 2017 we inaugurated our expanded gallery/home space with the exhibition "Almost 17 and #werestillhere". Our artists make our gallery possible! They are a diverse group of independent artists, creating right now. We are proud to soon mark our 20 Years Anniversary with a year-long celebration fostering our continued dedication to the living artists we represent and maintaining a robust program of exhibitions. Stop by! We are always free and open to the public.
"Art is both love and understanding, the desire to give. It is not charity, which is the giving of the self. It is both the taking and giving of beauty, the turning out to the light the inner folds of the awareness of the spirit. It is the recreation of another plane of the realities of the world, the tragic and wonderful realities of earth and man and all the interrelations of these." Written by Ansel Adams in a letter to his best friend, Cedric Wright in 1937
