In Augustina Droze's collection, “Zodiac Flora”, animals combined with a corresponding flower are presented in hybridized form, reflecting the optima of reverence and beauty through the human lens. The Chinese zodiac, or shengxiao (/shnng-sshyao/ 'born resembling'), is represented by 12 zodiac animals. In order, they are the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Flowers are highly significant in the Chinese zodiac. Each zodiac animal has a lucky flower attached to it that enhances the sign’s personality as well as elevates overall wellbeing. Droze created her world of floral animals to inhabit her paintings.
