Karen Antonelli: Strangeland - Germinal

In Strangeland – Germinal a dense field presses downward into a fragile, pale ground. Vein-like lines and ruptures suggest forms associated with growth, but rendered unstable. The horizon is provisional, a thin demarcation that fails to contain the force above it. Antonelli treats the collagraph plate as a site of excavation. Material decisions like wrinkled substrates or uneven pressure are not incidental. These works are about the consequences of force over time. They read as documents of endurance: surfaces that have been stressed, altered, and left permanently marked.
