Karen Antonelli: Plantain II

Antonelli's nature ink reliefs were created from plants that grow along the railway line behind her studio in Larimer. With this series, she is reflecting on the ability of growing things to fulfill their purpose despite the challenges that weather, insects, and human actions throw at them. Cardboard Plate Drypoint is a form of intaglio printmaking, where an image is incised directly into a cardboard printing plate with sharp tools. Ink wiped into the grooves and indentations of the cardboard plate is transferred onto paper. Printing a drypoint is similar to printing an etching, but a drypoint can be made with minimal tools and without harsh chemicals.
