Craig Marcus: Crashing the Carnivale

Craig Marcus’ artwork is constructed through accumulation and repeated revision. Layers of printed matter, paint, and drawing are cut, overlaid, obscured, and reworked until original sources become visually unstable. Marks are pushed and pulled across the surface producing dense fields where movement and resistance coexist. Saturated grounds of color collide with weighted shapes, creating tension between figure-like fragments and the surrounding field. The compositions suggest internal systems like language or architecture, without resolving into legible imagery. What remains visible is process: evidence of decision-making, correction, and persistence.
